Myra Mendonca (1954–2015) was a quite a big name in politics, especially in the Mira-Bhayandar area of Maharashtra India. She did something super important—she became the first-ever mayor of the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC). That was a pretty big deal back then. She held this position from August 28 2002 to February 27 2005 which means she was in charge for a good few years.
Her Personal Life
Now talking about her personal life, Myra was married to Gilbert Mendonca who was also a well-known political guy. He wasn’t just anybody—he actually got elected as an MLA (Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly) and served from 2009 to 2014. So politics ran in their family.
They had two kids and both of them got into politics too:
Son: Venture Mendonca—he is been quite active in local politics and works as a Municipal Corporator in MBMC.
Daughter: Caitlin Pereira—she literally followed in her mom’s footsteps and became the mayor of MBMC from 2012 to 2015. So yes the whole family is deep into politics.
Her Passing
Sadly, Myra Mendonca passed away on June 14 2015 when she was 61 years old. She had been unwell for some time before that. Her funeral took place at Nazareth Church which just shows how connected she was to the local community.
Even though she is no longer here, her work in politics and governance made a big difference in Mira-Bhayandar and her family is still carrying on that legacy, keeping the political spirit alive.
