Then in 1978 he became sarpanch (village head) of Mira-Bhayandar. That time he was still a young guy but his brain was sharp for leadership. People started noticing him slowly because he was always solving local problems.

Then in 1990 he went one step higher and became president of Mira-Bhayandar. He was quick to take decisions and made things move fast so more and more people started trusting him.

Mendonca slowly became a popular name in Mira-Bhayandar politics. He was always in between local problems, fixing roads, improving transport, solving city problems. He kept doing this nonstop and that made his name even bigger in front of the people.

Becoming MLA (2009-2014)

In 2009 Mendonca thought “Now I must go for something bigger.” So he contested in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections as an NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) candidate.

That time there was a big issue in Uttan, a garbage dumping ground was being made there and people were very angry.

They were so angry that they did not let any politician enter the area for campaigning. But somehow Mendonca managed to go there and talk to them.

This became a strong reason why people voted for him.

He won the election with 62013 votes agaist BJP’s Narendra Mehta by a margin of 10606 votes. After becoming an MLA, he focused on improving train services at Mira Road railway station because too many people depended on that station for daily travel.

But then in 2014 when he contested again, he got a huge defeat. This time Narendra Mehta won against him by almost 30,000 votes.

What Work He Did for Mira-Bhayandar

During his time in politics Mendonca worked to improve Mira-Bhayandar as much as possible. His main focus was roads, transport, safety, and other important things that affected common people. Some of his biggest works were:

Mendonca’s wife Myra Mendonca was also in politics. She was the first mayor of Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation and a strong leader. But in 2014 she sadly passed away.

Politics runs deep in the Mendonca family. His son Venture Mendonca is a corporator in Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation. His daughter Caitlin Pereira was mayor from 2012 to 2017. So this family has a strong hold in local politics.
