Vidya Jaiprakash Thakur is an Indian politician from Maharashtra, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). For many years, she has been active in politics and public service.

Early Life

She was born on 15 June 1963 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She studied up to Class VIII. From a young age she showed interest in public life and social work. Later she joined politics and began working with the BJP.

Political Journey

Her first big success came through the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). She was elected as a corporator and worked on local civic issues. Her work helped her build a strong support base in Goregaon. Later she became the Deputy Mayor of Mumbai, this position gave her more responsibility and helped more people know about her work.

In 2014 Vidya Thakur won the Goregaon Assembly election and became a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly which was an important victory for her political career. She defeated a strong opponent and helped strengthen the BJP’s position in the constituency.

After winning the election, she was given the responsibility of Minister of State in the Maharashtra government, where she worked in departments such as Women and Child Development, Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Protection, and Food and Drugs Administration. Through these departments, she got a chance to work for people and improve many public services.

Her popularity continued to grow. In 2019, she again won the Goregaon Assembly seat. When the next election was held in 2024, then she won once again. With this victory, she became a three-time MLA from Goregaon.

Handling Responsibilities

Within the BJP, she has also handled many important responsibilities, she worked in leadership positions in the party’s women’s wing in Mumbai. Through these roles, she helped strengthen the party organization and connect with more people.

Throughout her public life, Vidya Thakur has worked on issues related to women, children, local development, and city residents. When people faced local problems then she often took part in efforts to solve them. She has remained active in both public service and politics for many years.
